Company facts: Asiacell was founded in Sulaymaniyah in 1999 and is still headquartered there; Ooredoo Group reports an effective stake of about 64%. Asiacell's network codes are MCC-MNC 418-05 and 418-00. Opensignal's January 2026 Iraq Mobile Network Experience report (measurement window 1 October to 29 December 2025) puts Asiacell's Download Speed Experience at 38.0 Mbps, ahead of Zain on 25.8 and Korek on 14.6. That report sits behind a registration wall, so for a figure anyone can open and check, the January 2025 edition measured Asiacell at 27.9 Mbps against Zain's 22 and awarded Asiacell all nine of its awards. Both editions put Asiacell first.
How to Activate an Asiacell eSIM
Check your phone supports eSIM
Dial *#06# — an EID number means eSIM support. The phone must be unlocked; recent iPhones, Samsungs and Pixels qualify.
Get the QR code from Asiacell
Visit a main Asiacell shop with your ID for an eSIM QR code — works for converting an existing number or starting a new one. Alternatively order a line from the Asiacell webshop (delivery inside Iraq) or call 333 for a new line and follow the voice instructions.
Scan, install, and manage in the app
Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → scan the QR code → agree to add the plan; the eSIM activates automatically. Download the Asiacell app to track your account and bundles.

Why the Asiacell half matters right now
Korek Telecom is in an open dispute with Iraq's Communications and Media Commission. The CMC cancelled the settlement agreement with Korek on 2 June 2026, and on 9 August 2026 it moved to shut the network down and placed liens on Korek's assets — the operating licence itself was not revoked. A Baghdad Rusafa court suspended the action on 23 August and then cancelled that injunction within days (reported as 24 August by 964media and as 26 August by Shafaq News and The New Region). Korek offices closed across eight federal governorates between 20 August and 6 September 2026. As of 7 September 2026 no shutdown of the network itself had been reported either way.
What that means for this eSIM: the plan carries two networks, so Asiacell is the leg you can plan around — nationwide, including Sulaymaniyah and its Kurdistan footprint. Korek is a bonus in Erbil and Duhok, not the foundation.
