Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my Hong Kong eSIM in Mainland China?

No. A Hong Kong plan covers Hong Kong only. For Macau, take our Hong Kong & Macao plan. For mainland China — Shenzhen, Guangzhou or anywhere else — you need an Asia regional plan, which covers the mainland alongside Hong Kong and Macau. The two moments this catches people out are the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau bridge and the high-speed rail from West Kowloon, where you clear mainland immigration inside the Hong Kong station. Note that mainland China restricts access to Google, WhatsApp, Instagram and other services; we sell connectivity, not a way around that.

Will my eSIM work in the MTR?

Yes! Hong Kong has excellent coverage in all MTR stations and tunnels. You can use maps, make calls, and browse while traveling underground.

Do I need a VPN in Hong Kong?

Not in Hong Kong. Google, WhatsApp, Instagram and Gmail all work normally — Hong Kong is a separate jurisdiction with its own internet. (TikTok withdrew from Hong Kong in 2020 and a small number of political sites have been blocked since 2021.) Mainland China is a different matter entirely, and we make no promise about what will or will not work if you cross the border.

How fast is 5G in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong has some of the world's fastest 5G, with speeds often exceeding 1Gbps in central areas. 4G LTE is also excellent with typical speeds of 50-100Mbps.
