For a police station, hospital or airport number, ask your accommodation or check the relevant Fijian government website: they are the only sources that stay current.

Not everywhere, and we will not pretend otherwise. Fiji has more than 330 islands and only about 110 are permanently inhabited. Mobile coverage follows people, so it is solid around Nadi, Denarau, the Coral Coast, Suva, Lautoka and Labasa, workable at many established resorts, and thin to absent on small uninhabited islets and the more remote northern Yasawas. If data matters for a specific island, ask that resort which operator they get a signal from before you book the transfer.
Do I get a signal during island boat transfers?
Sometimes near shore, rarely in open water. Treat a boat crossing as offline time: download maps, boarding passes and entertainment before you leave the jetty.
Is an eSIM better than buying a local Fijian SIM?
The practical advantage is registration. Fiji requires mobile users to register their identity details to activate a local prepaid SIM, which means paperwork at a shop or airport counter on arrival.
