Benefits of eSIM for Moldova Travel
🇪🇺 Read this first if your line is European
Since 1 January 2026, the EU's “Roam Like at Home” rules cover Moldova (and Ukraine) alongside the 27 EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. If you are travelling on an EU or EEA line, you now use calls, texts and data in Moldova at your domestic prices, with no roaming surcharge — so you very likely do not need this product at all. That is the European Commission's own wording, not ours.
Two caveats from the same source: your operator may still apply a fair-use data cap in roaming, and the rules are meant for periodic travel — not for living abroad on a foreign line. If you are hitting that cap, or staying a while, an eSIM is still the cheaper answer.
Travelling from Latin America or the United States? None of the above applies to you. Your operator bills Moldova as international roaming, and this page is written for you.

4G LTE available in cities and towns. 3G covers most rural areas. Average speeds: 20-50 Mbps on 4G, 5-15 Mbps on 3G. Good enough for maps, social media, and video calls.
Transnistria Note
Transnistria runs its own operator, Interdnestrcom (IDC), which our plans do not carry. Do not count on data in Tiraspol or Bender, and do not try to select IDC manually — the plan cannot attach to it. Download maps before you go.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
📵 No Service in Wine Cellars
- This is normal - cellars are deep underground
- Download wine tour apps before descending
- Take photos offline, upload later
- WiFi sometimes available in tasting rooms
🔄 Different Network in Transnistria
IDC (Interdnestrcom) is Transnistria's own network and is not carried by our plans, so your eSIM will not attach to it. Where Orange's signal reaches across, set network selection to manual and pick Orange. Otherwise plan for no data.
🐌 Slow Rural Speeds
Villages often have 3G only. This is sufficient for messaging and maps. Save heavy downloads for city WiFi. Most accommodations offer good WiFi.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my eSIM work in Transnistria?
No, not reliably. Transnistria is outside the control of the Moldovan government and runs its own operator, Interdnestrcom, which our plans do not carry. Where Orange's signal spills across the administrative line you may get service; inside Tiraspol and Bender, assume you will not. Download offline maps and tell someone your plans before crossing.
Can I use my eSIM in Romania or Ukraine?
Basic Moldova plans work only in Moldova. For cross-border trips to Romania or Ukraine, consider a regional Eastern Europe plan for seamless connectivity.
How much data for wine tours?
For a week of wine touring with navigation, translations, and photo sharing, 5-10GB is usually sufficient. Download offline maps as backup for rural wineries.
Is English widely spoken?
English is limited outside Chisinau and tourist areas. Download translation apps for Romanian and Russian. Your eSIM data will be essential for communication.
